Sea Lake Initiatives in 2024
In 2024, we worked with the Sea Lake Facilities Committee and supporters, and Nikken Housing to carry out the following various initiatives and services.
January • Committee members conveyed the voices of residents to the town hall: Based on the agreement (a pledge agreed upon by the town hall and Nikken in 2018 to maintain the environment of Sea Lake), they appealed that it is difficult for volunteers alone to mow the grass in the large parks and sidewalks. The town hall and Nikken began discussions.
• Progress in discussions: The town hall (Urban Planning Division) responded that they would consider improvement measures with Nikken in the future. They emphasized the need for future discussions to include residents who are involved in mowing the grass.
• Representatives of the Life Environment Division and Yomitan Wanwan Club inspected the Sea Lake Dog Run: If the fence is repaired in the future, the village will consider making effective use of it.
February • Charity bazaar for relief from the Noto Peninsula earthquake: A total of 129,070 yen was donated through the Social Welfare Council. The event was a success with many residents and supporters.
• Children's club launched: Local children and parents start interacting.
• 2023 maintenance reserve fund accounting report: The first year's collection rate is over 50%. 70% of the total 642,000 yen was saved, and 30% was used to purchase tools such as lawnmowers, which were then rented free of charge to residents.
March • "Children's Starry Sky Movie Night" held: Children make popcorn and enjoy watching picture-story shows and movies.
April • Park maintenance contract signed: The committee and Yomitan Village Office continue the contract for 120,000 yen. The oil will be used for lawnmowers and garbage bags.
• Summer time implemented for beautification activities: The hours will be changed from 7 to 8 a.m. from April to October to thoroughly prevent heatstroke.
May • Road weeding improvement: After many discussions with the town office, it was decided that weeding work on roads and sidewalks within Sea Lake will be carried out by silver workers three times a year using the village's budget.
June • Response to landslide: Due to heavy rainfall over the past few days, Nikken conducted a drone survey to investigate the landslide on the Sea Lake Forest side and responded promptly. No damage was reported afterwards.
July • Collection of maintenance reserve funds for fiscal 2024 (hereinafter referred to as reserve funds)
• Preparation for launch of the neighborhood association: Nikken will receive support from experts and work to strengthen the system for launching the neighborhood association.
August • Traffic safety awareness: In response to a collision between a child and a car, speed reduction and caution will be implemented via official LINE.
September • Children's association study group begins: Parents will provide learning support and community interaction for 30 minutes from 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
October • Posters and official LINE will be used to inform people of manners and precautions for Halloween: As there are many visitors, we will support children to avoid accidents, and it will be a place for interaction where many smiles can be seen from children to adults.
• Yomitan road construction adjustment: Request that construction be carried out outside of rush hours to minimize inconvenience to residents.
November • Strengthening measures to deal with unpaid contributions: Visited housing companies and residents to ask for their cooperation. We are currently building a system to deal with the issue of unpaid contributions.
December • The children's group took the lead in cleaning up the meeting hall. A potluck party was held afterwards. It became a place for local interaction.
Continuing activities
• Every 1st Thursday of the month: 7pm-8pm, a regular meeting was held to resolve resident disputes, hold fun events, and prepare for the launch of the neighborhood association.
• Every 2nd Saturday of the month: Cleaning activities were carried out (prepared cleaning tools and drinks). We also accepted applications for the loan of lawnmowers and other tools.
• Information dissemination: The official LINE and website are available in both Japanese and American. We also posted notices on the bulletin board to reach children and elderly people who do not have smartphones, and to provide information about Sea Lake to a wide range of people.
• Cleaning tool loan: Cleaning tools were prepared and loaned out on the 2nd Saturday of the month.
• Problem-solving support: Support by contacting management companies, government offices, police, etc. regarding neighborhood troubles and complaints about rental properties and private lodgings via official LINE.
• Provide simple explanations of Sea Lake's rules to new residents, introduce the community (Facebook, official LINE, etc.), and ask if there are any inconveniences to help them quickly get used to life at Sea Lake.
Through this initiative, we aimed to improve the living environment of residents and strengthen the bonds of the community.
For Sea Lake, the facility committee and the supporters who support the committee have been working as volunteers for many years without pay. We are truly grateful. We ask for your continued support this year as much as possible.
