Happy Halloween!!

外国籍住民の多いシーレイクでは毎年10月31日の夕方から住民の皆さんを中心にハロウインが行われ、シーレイクの外から来訪された多くのファミリーで賑わいます。ハロウィンはもともとアイルランド、スコットランド、ウェールズなどのケルト諸語圏にその文化や言語が受け継がれている人々が行った秋の収穫祭なんです。ケルトの暦で１年の終わりの日に大地の恵みに感謝し、亡くなった家族が帰ってくるのを迎えるという。まるで沖縄のお盆のようなもの。その時に悪霊や魔女が紛れ込んで悪さをするのを防ぐために怖いお面を被ったりしたのが始まりだそうです。現代では、そのような宗教的な意味合いは薄くなり、単なるイベントとして仮装を楽しみ、子供たちは家々を回ってお菓子をもらうという交流文化になっています。

In Seelake, many residents who have daivercity cultures live. Halloween of the community begin on the evening of October 31st each year, drawing large crowds of families visiting from outside Seelake.Halloween originated as an autumn harvest festival observed by people in Celtic-speaking regions like Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.According to the Celtic calendar, it marked the end of the year, a time to give thanks for the earth's bounty and welcome back departed family members. It was much like Okinawa's Bon Festival.To prevent evil spirits and witches from mingling in and causing mischief during this time, people began wearing frightening masks. In modern times, these religious connotations have faded. It has become simply an event where people enjoy dressing up, and children go door-to-door receiving candy, fostering a culture of community interaction.
